Uses — tools, hardware and setup

The hardware, editor setup and services I actually use day to day.

A snapshot of what I work with. Updated when something changes, not when something new is announced.

Hardware

  • Laptop — 14" MacBook Pro, M3 Pro, 36 GB. The RAM is for the three Docker containers, not the browser tabs.
  • Display — one 27" 4K at 150%. I tried two monitors for a year and went back.
  • Keyboard — a 65% mechanical with tactile switches.
  • Phone for testing — a deliberately mid-range Android. Everything gets checked here before it ships.

Editor

  • VS Code with Vim keybindings.
  • Theme — a dark theme with a light one bound to a shortcut, because screenshots in docs should be light.
  • Extensions that earn their place — ESLint, Prettier, Tailwind IntelliSense, Error Lens, GitLens.
  • Font — JetBrains Mono, 14px, ligatures off.

Terminal

Ghostty, zsh, Starship prompt, fzf and ripgrep. pnpm for everything Node.

Services

  • Hosting — Vercel for Next.js, Fly.io when a long-running process is involved.
  • Database — MongoDB Atlas or Neon, depending on the shape of the data.
  • Design — Figma, mostly for reading other people's files.
  • Notes — Obsidian, one vault, aggressively unorganised.

Starter text — swap in your own setup, or delete this page from Admin → Pages.
